Functional Movement Training
Functional movement training is based on real-life biomechanics. It involves multi-jointed muscle groups and training is through multiple planes of motion. We reproduce the daily activity or movement to improve balance and muscle control with cues to activate and rely more on the core musculature for stabilization.
At The Physical Therapy Center, we analyze your functional movements to give us insight into limitations that can effect your performance or lead to injuries. We can then recommend strategies to overcome these limitations leading to improved fitness.
Sports-Specific Movement
In a similar manner, we analyze your movement and assess the musculoskeletal flexibility, strength and alignment of your body to promote improved performance and injury prevention. We have experience with youth and adults who compete in sports or participate in recreational sports. Improving your performance and preventing injuries through evaluation and specific training is a great benefit to your long-term goals of becoming your best.
Pilates Method
The Pilates method incorporates equipment and mat work to provide a means to strengthen the entire body as a unit. The principles of Pilates focus on breathing, core control and spinal mobility. The Pilates apparatus, through springs, provides assistance, allowing the physical therapy patient to move through ranges of motion with greater ease and control. Creating successful movement patterns builds confidence and carryover to functional tasks.
At The Physical Therapy Center, Pilates-based exercise is incorporated into the patient’s plan of care from day one. Programs are designed based on individual needs and home exercise programs enhance the exercises that are performed in physical therapy sessions. Patients may transition to Pilates mat classes, private training or independent exercise programs. The patient can progress from a rehab-based program to a fitness-based program as pain levels and functional mobility allow, fully incorporating Pilates into his or her regular exercise routine.
